Candle Care… The Burning Questions!

The first burn is the most important!

Soy wax has a memory; and patience is everything. The way you burn the candle for the first time will impact future burns. You should always allow the wax to burn so that it melts across the entire surface to the edges. A pool of wax will form and this will set you up for even and consistent burn; preventing a hole in the candle, know as tunneling.

Avoid light and hot temperatures

Candle waxes and fragrances are sensitive to both temperature and light, so try to be careful when storing candles. Try to always store your candle in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. This will help protect it from discolouration and fading.

Safety Precautions…

Candle and wax melts are meant to be enjoyed, but it is important that you follow some common sense safety rules when burning them.

  • A burning candle should not be used as a night light.

  • Always trim your wick to 5mmm before each light. This helps to create a calm and gentle flame. If not trimmed, your candle may smoke and encourage a quicker burn.

  • Avoid exposure to direct sunlight or wind drafts. Both will discolour your candle and it may lose its scent.

  • Never burn your candle near anything flammable.

  • Always keep the wick centered/ aligned and do not allow the flame to touch the sides of the vessel.

  • Never burn your candle for longer than 4 hours at a time. This helps to prevent a large flame and in some cases your tumbler jar overheating, cracking and shattering. Stop use when close to 15mm of wax remains.

  • Place the candle on a stable, level and heat resistant surface.

  • Never move a lit candle.

  • Keep away from children and pets.

  • Never leave your candle burning unattended.

  • Keep in mind: due to the nature of soy wax, it is perfectly normal for the soy wax to change its shade to a murky grey post burns.

Wax Melt Care Guide

  • Place your wax melt in a melt approved wax burner/ warmer and never add water.

  • Do not leave your warmer on for extended periods of time (max 3 hours at a time)

  • You can re-use your wax melt until the scent has faded. Once faded, remove the wax residue and add a new wax melt.

  • To remove the solid wax from the warmer, simply turn on your warmer for less than 1 minute until the bottom surface of the wax has melted. It will then be easier to remove the wax from the vessel.

My candle has finished. What now?

  1. Buy another of course!

  2. Wash out the container with soap and hot water and remove the wick tab. The labels should peel off fairly easily after a soak in warm water.

  3. Repurpose your container … we have come up with a handy list of things that you can put in the container to avoid ending up in landfill:

    • a plant or succulent

    • cold beverage … your choice!

    • flowers

    • hair ties

    • pens & pencils

    • make up brushes
